If you don’t already have a regular meditation practice, then September is a great time to start! It is usually a time when everyone has finished going on their summer holidays, the children go back to school and life just seems to get busy again. By finding the just a few minutes each day to relax and clear your mind can have a massive impact on your life overall.

When should I do this meditation?
Meditation is more effective when it is done little and often rather than for long periods of time but on odd days. This 10 minute meditation is the perfect length of time that is easy to stick to. If you can, try to do this, or another meditation everyday.
I find it best to meditate first thing in the morning, as soon as I get up. This way, my mind is calm after my sleep and I won’t make any excuses like ‘I’ve had a busy day’ or ‘I’ve got too much to do’. By doing it straight away, you know you will get it done regularly.
Where should I mediate?
Obviously never ever meditate while driving or somewhere you could put yourself in danger. It is best to find a quiet part of your house where you can sit comfortably and won’t be disturbed.
If you have space, create an area specifically for meditation. Lay out some comfortable cushions, place some pictures, plants or buddhas around and maybe get some incense or nice smelling candles to help you relax during your meditation.
If this permanent space is not available to you then it really doesn’t matter. You could do it sitting at the kitchen table with your feet flat on the floor, or sitting crossed legged by the window in your living room with a nice cushion or blanket under you for comfort. Anywhere you are happy to spend a few minutes feeling calm and relaxed.
